Things Hidden #14 - The Tom Holland Approach
Are the life and teachings of Jesus Christ the water in which we swim?
Greetings from Austin! I welcome the opportunity to bring to you the thirteenth post of Things Hidden! Episode #14 of the Things Hidden podcast is out now!
You can watch the YouTube by clicking the link here-
Episode #14 is a review of a lecture from the historian Tom Holland. Tom is one of the foremost authorities on the Roman Empire.
Tom wrote a book called Dominion about the influence of Christianity on western civilization. This book was profoundly impactful on my faith. If you have been following along, you know that I have referenced the “Tom Holland approach” multiple times. This is the idea that you can assess the truthfulness and worthwhileness of Christianity or any other major world religion by looking at the “receipts” of that religion. What are the receipts of Christianity? It turns out, as Tom convincingly conveys in 600 pages of Dominion, that Christianity is the most positively impactful movement in human history.
There was no script for this episode, so I don’t have anything to include here in the blog post, other than a link to the YouTube video. At some point I will start writing blogs that are separate and standalone from the podcasts, but for now I have a pretty full plate. So I’ll just invite you to watch the YouTube (or Spotify or Apple).
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you might have. I continue to have phone calls with folks who reached out after watching Things Hidden and wanted to have a discussion about faith. I welcome those discussions, regardless of your vantage point.
If you want to follow along on socials too, they’re all linked here - https://linktr.ee/thingshidden
Be well.
