Things Hidden #25 - An Atheist Panpsychist Philosopher Converts...Sort Of

What if God is good but just has limited powers?

Greetings from Austin! I welcome the opportunity to bring to you Things Hidden. Episode #25 of the Things Hidden podcast is out now!

A request right up front: I know that hundreds of you are following along pretty closely to Things Hidden and I deeply appreciate that and it is a privilege. Do me a favor, if you’re not following the Things Hidden account on YouTube and Spotify - go over there and follow, like, comment, leave a review. All that fun stuff. It really does make a big difference in the algo. Thank you!

You can watch the YouTube by clicking the link here-

This episode covers a discussion with the well-known panpsychist philosopher Philip Goff. Perhaps you’ve heard of panpsychism before. It’s the idea that consciousness is fundamental. It is everywhere. Every single thing in the universe has consciousness.

He talks about this a little bit in the episode but not much. The episode focuses on his recent conversion to a “non-traditional” form of Christianity that includes a “God of limited powers”. This God of limited powers, which is quite unorthodox but certainly not unheard of, presents a unique explanation for the problem of evil.

This episode gives us a bunch of great jumping off points into topics we’ve touched on in previous episodes: simulation theory; grasping at the ungraspable; acting as if; the Tom Holland approach; and much more.

There was no script for this episode, so I don’t have anything to include here in the blog post, other than a link to the YouTube video. At some point I will start writing blogs that are separate and standalone from the podcasts, but for now I have a pretty full plate. So I’ll just invite you to watch the YouTube (or Spotify or Apple).

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you might have. I continue to have phone calls with folks who reached out after watching Things Hidden and wanted to have a discussion about faith. I welcome those discussions, regardless of your vantage point.

If you want to follow along on socials too, they’re all linked here - https://linktr.ee/thingshidden

Be well.
