Things Hidden #32 - Does Faith Cure Depression?

An examination of the studies on religion and mental health

Greetings from Austin! I welcome the opportunity to bring to you Things Hidden. Episode #32 of the Things Hidden podcast is out now!

You can watch the YouTube by clicking the link here-

This episode asks a simple question - can faith cure mental illness? And I give you ALL the facts on this one, the good and the bad. We start with prescription meds, because the evidence there is weaker than you might think. Then we get to the research on faith. Which is, I think, really hard to ignore.

We also get into some dark stuff. Religious trauma. Clergy abuse. Exorcisms. And I share why I stopped going to church regularly several years ago. We cover the placebo effect, which is nuts, and what I call “the love effect”. And the last point in the episode is a very Things Hidden-ish one. But you’ll have to watch to hear it.

If you’re enjoying Things Hidden, like and subscribe on YouTube. Leave a comment. That’s the best way to help Things Hidden. I’m trying to get the numbers up a bit more and then I want to start having guests. The YouTube algorithm is a strange beast, but liking, subscribing and commenting help a ton.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you might have. I continue to have phone calls with folks who reached out after watching Things Hidden and wanted to have a discussion about faith. I welcome those discussions, regardless of your vantage point.

If you want to follow along on socials too, they’re all linked here - https://linktr.ee/thingshidden

Be well.
